Hi! My name’s Madison Mercado, and I’m a journalism student at Boston University, which really means I’m walking around the city 24/7 and writing about what I see.

In the fall, I’ll be entering my third year at BU and returning to classes after taking the Spring 2022 semester off to work at The Boston Globe as a City Desk co-op for six months. (psst! you can check out all of my clips from the co-op here)

Prior to the Globe, I was an associate editor at The Daily Free Press, the independent student newspaper at BU, covering and editing city news stories. I was also an editor and writer for Her Campus at BU, a lifestyle magazine for college students.

Aside from writing, I love doing graphic design projects. I post mock sticker designs, posters, small illustrations, and anything in-between on Instagram under the moniker of Don’t Make Lies. This name came from a moment when I misspoke years ago (I still can’t even remember what I was talking about), but the phrase has stuck around ever since. Now, I find it fitting that I eventually went on to become a reporter, who needs to use objectivity and not make lies in her work. : )
